Learning guide
English B2 vocabulary: learn phrases you can explain and use
At B2, vocabulary work can move beyond naming things toward explaining reasons, comparing options and describing consequences. Learning a word with its typical partners helps you use it precisely.
Learn combinations rather than bigger lists
Instead of recording “decision” alone, collect “make a decision”, “a difficult decision” and a sentence that shows the context. Do the same with verbs and their prepositions. Your notes should help you produce a phrase, not only recognise a translation.
A B2 label is a guide to difficulty, not a fixed list of words everyone must know. Check whether you can understand and reuse an expression in the topics that matter to you.
Practise a cause-and-effect sentence
Read a short passage and identify the link between two events. Then use the expression to discuss a different topic. This tests whether you have understood its function.
The company reduced its opening hours. As a result, fewer customers visited after work.Build a selective review routine
Use Lexiego stories and articles to find expressions in context, then revisit saved words with their original sentences. Pair recognition with a small writing task; vocabulary review alone does not assess your overall CEFR level.

- Explain the phrase without copying its translation.
- Write a sentence on a different topic.
- Review the original context later and check your usage.
